Dr. Jane Goodall’s Most Inspiring Quotes

Dr. Jane Goodall uses her voice and words to ignite a specific goal or plan of action, which is what we all need to lead us into a positive 2020.

“There is still so much in the world worth fighting for. So much that is beautiful, so many wonderful people working to reverse the harm, to help alleviate the suffering. And so many young people dedicated to making this a better world. All conspiring to inspire us and to give us hope that it is not too late to turn things around, if we all do our part.”

— Dr. Jane Goodall’s New Year Message For 2018

“Together we can ensure that captive chimpanzees have a better life. Together we can save wild chimpanzees in their forest homes.”

— Dr. Jane Goodall’s Thoughts For First World Chimpanzee Day

“Animals help me survive my days of travel. As I go place to place around the world, I take note and remember well those animals I’ve gotten to meet along the way.”

— Jane’s Animal Friends

“We can have a world of peace. We can move toward a world where we live in harmony with nature. Where we live in harmony with each other. No matter what nation we come from. No matter what our religion. No matter what our culture. This is where we’re moving towards.”

— Dr. Jane Goodall’s Message for #PeaceDay 2018

“I’ve lived in this world for more than 84 years and I did indeed live in a different era and live through different eras to the one which you are going to enter today… I’ve had an extraordinary journey through my 84 years. It’s something I could never have imagined when I was young and during the journey many people have supported me. We can’t do it alone. It’s really important to build our friendships.”

— Dr. Jane Goodall’s Honorary Degree Recipient Speech At Simon Fraser University

“Surely, we do not want to live in a world without the great apes, our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom? A world where we can no longer marvel at the magnificent flight of bald eagles or hear the howl of wolves under the moon? A world not enhanced by the sight of a grizzly bear and her cubs hunting for berries in the wilderness? What would our grandchildren think if these magical images were only to be found in books?”

— Dr. Jane Goodall’s Statement In Defense Of The Endangered Species Act

“I’ve spent my life speaking out on behalf of animals. And there is one issue that stands out uniquely as one of the worst threats to their survival. The illegal wildlife trade… Without doing something today, we could face a world in which thousands and thousands of species go silent. Never to return. But there is something we can do today, and it will take all of us working together to make it possible.”

— Jane Goodall Introduces #4EverWild

“The advice I give to young people today is exactly what my mother gave to me when I was 10 and I said I’m going to grow up go to Africa, live with wild animals and write books about them. Everybody laughed. How could I do that? We didn’t have any money. World War II was raging. I was just a girl. But my mother always said, ‘If you really want something, you’re going to have to work hard, you’ll have to take advantage of every opportunity but don’t give up.’ I’ve taken that message to young people…all around the world.”

— Dr. Jane Goodall’s Advice

“We also had a session on conditions in some captive situations, secretly filmed footage of the pre-training of circus entertainment chimps. Little infants being beaten and medical research labs. Our closest relatives in 5ft by 5ft cages and I went to that conference as a scientist, I built up a research station, my life was better than anything I could have dreamed of. I had time to be in the rainforest and with the chimps, who by then I knew so, so well. They were almost like, it wasn’t family, I can’t describe it, but very close and I left as an activist. I didn’t make a conscious decision, I just knew I had to do something.”

— The Big Table With Philip Lymbery

“I’m 300 days a year on the road. I’m talking about what we’re doing to our planet, how we’re destroying the forests, we’re polluting the ocean and the air and the rivers, we are spraying poisonous chemicals on our food, with our pesticides and herbicides. I have to work with young people today so that we try and raise new generations to look after this poor old planet better than we have, before it’s too late.”

Who Says Boys Should Have All the Fun?

When you’re ready for something different, here are two great action/adventure novels with alternative female leads. Who says boys should have all the fun?

Trauma Alert by Radclyffe. The first installment in the First Responders series, Trauma Alert introduces us to Dr. Ali Torveau, an ER doctor who has dedicated herself to saving lives at the expense of her romantic life, although the real reason for her avoidance of romance runs much deeper. Things change when she crosses paths with Beau Cross, a sexy firefighter with a sordid past who has her own reasons for avoiding love. Although a romance novel, action abounds in Trauma Alert. Radclyffe is the founder of Bold Stroke Books, an independent predominantly lesbian publisher, the author of over 45 lesbian romance novels, and a former doctor who certainly knows how to spin a medical drama.

Action Novels that are Well Worth Reading

With so many titles to choose from in the world of action and adventure literature, it may be difficult to choose your next read. Here are three action novels that are well worth reading, and would make great choices for your next book.

Lenosity 7

First Blood by David Morrell. If the title sounds familiar that’s because you may have seen it at the cinema. Yes, David Morrell’s first novel, First Blood, served as the basis for Rambo: First Blood. Although the screenplay went through a decade or revisions before finally making it to the screen, the novel is still every bit as action packed as the movie and well worth the read.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. Although often filled with more biting social commentary than traditional action, Fight Club is nonetheless action packed in its own way. Adapted into a hugely successful movie featuring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton among other notable stars, Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club originated in novel form and is every bit as gripping and compelling as the movie, if not more.

Crucible: A Thriller by James Rollins. The latests release in his Sigma Force series, James Rollins (the pen name of author and veterinarian James Paul Czajkowski) shows exactly why he’s a dominant force in the world of action/adventure literature with the continuation of his Sigma Force storyline.

Fun Facts About Fight Club

A fan favorite that enjoys enduring success to this very day, Fight Club was a masterpiece of a film with a continued cult following. Here are three interesting facts about the film that you may or may not have known.

It started as a novel. Despite a drastically different ending, Fight Club manages to stay true to the plot, themes, and progression of Chuck Palahniuk’s debut novel of the same name. The all-star cast including Brad Pitt and Ed Norton seem perfectly suited to the characters they play, and the movie (much like the novel) is nothing short of a non-stop thrill from start to finish.

Even the wardrobe was R-rated. The MPAA was rather tough on Fight Club, and as a result many scenes were cut from the movie in order for it to maintain an R-rating. That said, the MPAA may have missed a ince detail in Brad Pitt’s wardrobe, as the tank top he wears in one of the pivotal final scenes is actually made up of various pornographic images. Oops.

The movie is absolutely full of Easter eggs. It may take the most perceptive of fans to notice them, but Fight Club is full of amusing Easter eggs. For example, one scene in the movie is filmed in front of a marquee for the movie Seven Years in Tibet, which of course, stars Brad Pitt. The movie is well worth another watch for those willing to try and spot some more…

Action and Adventure in Your Own Backyard

Looking for a thrill? You may not have to look that far. While it may be tempting to think that seeking action and adventure means traveling to far off destinations, often times you can find adventure just around the corner. Here are three action-packed activities you can do close to home.

Parkour. Born of basic military obstacle training, parkour exploded in popularity in part thanks to movies like Casino Royale and Brick Mansions. The concept is simple: Anything can be an obstacle. Often practiced in parks and cities, parkour can be done alone or as part of a group and requires no specific gear to get started, making it extremely accessible.

Rock climbing. You don’t necessarily have to be out in the mountains to enjoy rock climbing. As the sport gains in popularity more and more rock climbing centres are opening up, and many gyms are incorporating rock climbing walls into their facilities. Odds are you won’t have to look very far for a good rock climbing spot nearby! For the uninitiated who are worried about fussing with harnesses, bouldering often serves as an excellent introduction to rock climbing.

Biking. Mountain biking certainly provides a thrill, and usually any kind of rough terrain can be suitable for the job. For those who live far away from mountains or other suitable environments, the focus can be shifted to speed riding or even distance riding, anything more than just a leisurely stroll.
